Pickleball in Rexburg, Idaho

Rexburg combines city park courts with extensive university recreation facilities. Nature Park is the straightforward municipal option, Smith Park is being upgraded for pickleball, and BYU-Idaho provides both indoor play in the Hart Building and six outdoor pickleball/tennis courts across the street.

Access differs by venue. City parks are the simpler choice for a group with its own equipment. BYU-Idaho can work for students, employees, and paying community patrons, but everyone must check in and court time can be displaced by classes. Grand Teton Pickleball, the three-court indoor business that opened in 2025, now states that it is closed.

Pickleball Courts Around Rexburg

  • Nature Park, 5th West and 3rd North. The city lists outdoor pickleball courts near the park shelter, playgrounds, walking paths, ponds, dog park, and disc golf course. Follow 5th West past the city shop buildings to reach the park. No recurring open-play schedule is posted, so bring partners or arrange a game. View Nature Park details.
  • Smith Park, E. Main Street near Madison Memorial Hospital. The official park page lists tennis/pickleball courts and street parking on all sides. City minutes from July 2026 said construction of the new pickleball courts had begun and would soon be completed, so call the Recreation Department at 208-372-2560 for the current opening status before visiting. Check Smith Park information.
  • BYU-Idaho Hart Building, 525 S. Center Street campus. Indoor pickleball is in Hart 210; players check in and collect equipment at Hart 214. Pickleball is unavailable during classes and scheduled activities, so use the posted schedule. Community visitors may purchase a 10-visit pass for $40 or a 25-visit pass for $100 and must follow university clothing and check-in policies. See Hart Building court details.
  • BYU-Idaho outdoor courts, directly west of the Hart Building. The university lists six courts primarily set up for pickleball but also usable for tennis. Campus recreation facilities are closed Sundays. Call Hart 214 at 208-496-7480 to confirm non-student access and availability. Review outdoor facility rules.

Beginner Programs and Instruction

Families with a new player should start with Rexburg Recreation's seasonal youth pickleball camps. The city groups camp registration with its pickleball tournament programs, and offerings change by season. Call 208-372-2560 or check the current recreation catalog for the next camp.

No recurring adult beginner clinic was confirmed. Adults should ask the Recreation Department whether instruction is planned at Nature Park or the new Smith Park courts. BYU-Idaho patrons can also ask Hart 214 about beginner-appropriate recreation times. For individual help, use this site's Coaches section.

Recreation Play, Tournaments, and Updates

Rexburg Recreation runs seasonal pickleball tournaments, but the Labor Day weekend event listed in the September 2026 catalog has ended. Use the city recreation programs page and Rec1 catalog for the next tournament or youth camp rather than relying on an expired date.

No fixed public open-play rotation was confirmed for Nature Park or Smith Park. BYU-Idaho posts court availability, but open court time is not the same as an organized game. Solo players should confirm a scheduled activity or local contact before arriving.

Making a Rexburg Pickleball Plan

If you are visiting with partners, start at Nature Park. It offers direct municipal outdoor access and a shelter beside the courts. Call the city first if you prefer Smith Park, because the new court project's opening status is still being updated.

If you are traveling alone, contact Rexburg Recreation at 208-372-2560 and ask when players gather or whether an open rotation is active. BYU-Idaho is the weather-protected alternative, but check the live schedule, purchase community access if needed, and check in at Hart 214. Do not plan around Grand Teton Pickleball; its official site says the indoor facility is closed.
